"When was the last time I saw a red dragonfly riding on me beneath the reddening autumn sky...?"
The song "Akatonbo (Red Dragonfly)," written by Rofu Miki and composed by Kosaku Yamada, was released in 1927 and remains a popular song in Japan today. The original piece was arranged by the trombonist Noboru Ogino when recording his CD "Cocktail." This piece is an arrangement of Ogino's piece for the oboe d'amore that takes its range into account.
I often saw red dragonflies, which are rarely seen in cities these days, flying around when I was leisurely walking home from school in western Hiroshima City, where I had spent my elementary school days. Hearing the melody of "Akatonbo" brings back many nostalgic memories of the past.
