イントロは昼下がりの南国のビーチのイメージで。[A]2拍前の"NextTempo"からインテンポになります。ティンバレスのフィルインで次のテンポを出してください。[A]からのリズムは、サンバとボサノバの中間くらいの感じのイメージで。[B]や[E]等のトゥッティの部分はシャープに、メロディーの部分はソフトにと、部分によって対比を出してください。[G]からはトロンボーン、[H]からはフルートのソロになっていますが、アドリブ的な部分なので、力のあるプレーヤーは、ギターパートに書かれているコードを参考に自由なアドリブにしてもかまいません。また、他のパートがアドリブを担当してもOKです。[I]の前半部分は、木管セクションのフレーズの隙間にブラスセクションの合いの手が入るという、アンサンブルの面白さを強調してください。[J]8小節間はパーカッションソリになります。ここはティンバレスをフィーチャーして書かれていますが、他のパーカッションに名手がいれば、そちらをフィーチャーしてもかまいません。続く[K]からの8小節間は、休んでいるパートは3拍目にハンドクラップを入れてもよいでしょう。この曲はティンバレスが命です。楽譜に書かれているパターンはあくまで参考例なので、自由なフィーリングで要所要所をかっこよく決めてください。また、パーカッションに余裕がある場合は、サンバに使われる楽器（アゴゴベル、パンデイロ、クィーカ等）を加えても良いでしょう。

星出尚志(Takashi Hoshide)

1962年山口県生まれ。

中学、高校時代、吹奏楽部でトロンボーンを吹くかたわら、バンドの指揮や編曲もしていたが、高校、大学在学中に吹奏楽連盟の課題曲に応募、２度とも見事に落選。「吹奏楽に才能なし」と自己の非力に鑑み、大学在学中は専らシンセサイザーに没頭し、現在も自宅のスタジオは機材やコンピュータで埋めつくされている。大学卒業後、出版社にて吹奏楽曲の編集に携わったことがきっかけで、再びこの世界へ足を踏み入れることになった。

吹奏楽作品としては、『薄暮の都市～８人の奏者のために～』、『北川木挽歌による幻想曲』、『ブラボー・ブラス！』、『丘の上のレイラ』、『ラ・グラン・マルシュ』等のオリジナルの他、ニュー・サウンズ・イン・ブラス等多くのアレンジがある。一方では、ミュージカル等の舞台音楽も多く手掛けている。

ON THE PALM AVENUE：Composer: Takashi HOSHIDE

As can be seen from its title “On The Palm Avenue,” this piece depicts the scenes of people dancing cheerfully to the rhythm of Latin music on a street lined with palm trees under the brilliant sun and blue skies of the tropics. This piece was written with a relatively low level of difficulty in mind, thus it is one that can be easily picked up by everyone in a school band.

The introduction of the piece is inspired by tropical beaches in the afternoon. From the “Next Tempo” two beats before rehearsal mark A, the piece maintains a strict tempo. Here, the timbales will play a short fill that leads into the next tempo. The rhythm from A should be set somewhere between that of samba and bossa nova. There should also be some contrast between the various sections by playing the “tutti” sections in B and E with more force and the melodic sections more softly. G and H open with a trombone and a flute solo respectively, but as these are adlib sections, more experienced performers are welcome to freely improvise using the chords in the guitar part. It is also possible for other parts to handle the adlib sections. For the first half of I, please emphasize the entertaining aspects of the ensemble by interpolating the brass sections into the gaps in the woodwind sections. There are 8bar percussion soli in J where the timbales are featured according to the score, but you are also free to feature other percussion instruments if there are performers proficient in them. This is followed by an 8bar section in K where the parts at rest can clap their hands on the third beat. Timbales are at the heart of this piece.The patterns in the score ultimately serve as a reference only, so please feel free to decide on the important details based on how you feel. If there is space for more percussion instruments, you can include more instruments that are used in a samba.
