小津安二郎映画音楽ピアノ作品集

2018年、斎藤高順作曲のピアノ作品集がドイツのProfilレーベルを皮切りに、世界へ向けて発売されます。

2015年の秋頃、小津安二郎映画音楽のピアノ譜が発見されたことをきっかけに、斎藤作品のピアノ小品によるCDリリースが企画されました。

斎藤作品は出版やCD化される機会が少なく、また同時代に活躍した芥川也寸志氏や團伊玖磨氏、黛敏郎氏や武満徹氏らのようにメディアで紹介されることもあまりなかったため、これまで斎藤作品の認知度は決して高くありませんでした。

しかし、意外なところから斎藤作品への関心が高まりを見せ始めたのです。

2012年に英国映画協会発行の映画専門誌サイト・アンド・サウンドが発表したランキングで、世界の映画監督358人が最も優れた映画に小津安二郎監督の「東京物語」を選出しました。

それ以降、世界の三大映画祭ベルリン、カンヌ、ヴェネチアの各国際映画祭でもたびたび上映されるなど、小津作品はヨーロッパの映画ファンから賞賛を集めることになりました。

ヨーロッパで絶大な評価を得ている小津映画の多くは、斎藤高順が音楽を手掛けた作品でした。

小津監督はサ・セ・パリ（フランス）、ヴァレンシア（スペイン）、ビア樽ポルカ（チェコ）、埴生の宿（イングランド民謡）、アニー・ローリー（スコットランド民謡）などがお気に入りだったので、斎藤にもシャンソン風やマーチ、ポルカ調の曲を作るように希望しました。

その結果、斎藤作品はどこかヨーロッパの雰囲気を漂わせるモダンな作風となり、ヨーロッパの聴衆にとっても親しみやすい音楽となったのではないでしょうか。

斎藤は戦時中、軍楽隊でマーチやポルカ、ワルツなど明るくリズミカルな曲調の吹奏楽作品を数多く作曲しました。

小津監督と出会ってからは、監督が求めた「お天気のいい音楽」という要望に応え、それらは小津映画を彩る小津調サウンドとして映像に絶妙なエッセンスを加える役割を果たしたのです。

そして2018年、小津調サウンドは珠玉のピアノ曲集として生まれかわりました。

In 2015 manuscripts of piano music which the composer had written for the films of Yasujiro Ozu were discovered and carefully restored.

In 2018, Profil H nssler, in corporation with King Inter-national Records, is releasing a recording worldwide of these works by Takanobu Saito performed by pianist Miki Aoki.
Saito’s music found recognition in an unexpected place.

In 2012, the British Film Institute magazine “Sight and Sound” announced that Yasukiro Ozu’s film “Tokyo Story” had been awarded the coveted first prize by votes of 358 film-directors from around the world.

Since then, Ozu films have become a mainstay of film festivals in Berlin, Cannes, Venice, and at other international film festivals.

His films are loved among European film fans. Most of Ozu’s films’ feature scores are works by Takanobu Saito.

Ozu loved the films such as “ a c’est Paris” (France), “Val ncia” (Spain), “Beer Barrel Polka” (Czech Republic), “Home! Sweet Home!” (England), and “Annie Laurie” (Scotland).

He requested Saito to compose music in the style of these films.

Saito agreed, creating music that is true to his own compositional tech-niques, yet also included influences from traditional European folk music.

As a result his music is very familiar sounding to western audiences. During the World War II, Saito composed mainly for wind ensembles.

Much of this music is full of life, rhythmical melodies typical for a military band.

Some of the music served as source mate-rial for his later collaboration with Ozu-as Ozu famously requested “bright and sunny music”. In 2018, Nexuss Music Publishing Inc.

is publishing a collection of Saito’s piano music from Ozu’s films.

We hope that this publication will bring his extraordinary scores to wider audiences around the world and allow musicians internationally to share the joy of performing these works.
