大江戸シンフォニックウィンドオーケストラの委嘱により、2021年4月作曲。同年6月13日、同団第9回定期演奏会にて初演。
コロナ禍であったこの時期に音楽を作るにあたり、その情勢を無視することはできませんでした。ジャンル問わず、プロ・アマ問わず、全ての芸術人が活動の自粛や縮小を余儀なくされたと思います。
吹奏楽においては、2020年秋頃から少しずつその活動を再開させている印象がありましたが、2025年現在でもなお、私達の明日が平穏だという保証はありません。
しかしながら、悲観的なまま日々を過ごし続けるわけにもいきません。せめて音楽を奏でている間は、心にまとわりつく様々なしがらみを忘れたい。
私達の音楽は、一旦「引き出しの中」に仕舞われたのだと考えました。積み上げてきたものは決して「崩れ落ちて」はいない。今まさに、引き出しの中に仕舞った音楽を「更新」させ、再び前進させていこう。その想いのもと、筆を進めました。

楽曲は、前半アンダンテによる穏やかな楽想。
ヘ長調 F durを基調としながらも揺れ動く調性や、旋律、伴奏共に多用される3連符は、安定の中の不安定を招きます。
後半は私達のこれからの更新 － 行進曲。前半部の主題を軽快な8分の6拍子にて再現。難解な構成にすることは極力避け、明るい音楽を目指しました。（野呂望）

PROGRESS SONGS AND MARCH IN OUR HEARTS

Commissioned by the Oedo Symphonic Wind Orchestra, this piece was composed in April 2021 and premiered at the orchestra’s 9th regular concert on June 13th of the same year.

When creating music during this period amid the COVID19 pandemic, it was impossible to ignore the circumstances. Regardless of genre or whether one is a professional or amateur, all artists were forced to refrain from or limit their activities.

In the field of wind bands, I had the impression that activities began to gradually resume around autumn 2020. However, even as of 2025, there is still no guarantee that our days will be peaceful.

Nevertheless, we cannot spend every day simply being pessimistic. At the very least, while making music, I wanted to forget the various constraints that weighed on our hearts.

I thought of our music as having been temporarily “put away in a drawer.” What we have built up has by no means “collapsed.” Now is the time to take out the music we once put away, to “renew” it, and move forward once again. It was with these thoughts that I composed this piece.

The first half features a calm and gentle Andante. While the music is centered on F major (Fdur), the shifting tonality and the frequent use of triplets in both melody and accompaniment create a sense of unease within stability.The latter half is a march that represents our progress towards the future. The theme from the first half is brought back in a lively 6/8 meter. I made a conscious effort to avoid an overly complex structure and instead aimed for music with a bright and uplifting character.
