17世紀初頭に活動したイギリスの探検家ヘンリー・ハドソンの探検と冒険の精神に敬意を表した作品。ハーフムーン号（Half Moon）とは彼の船の名前で、オランダの東インド会社から雇われ、この船と共に北アメリカ大陸の探検に向かいました。ハドソンは、のちにハドソン川と名付けられる壮大な川を探検し、その他、ニューヨークの地理的要素や歴史に根深く関連付けられています。

堂々としたファンファーレが作品の始まりを告げ、さまざまな楽器が互いに呼応する躍動的なセクションが続きます。感情豊かで合唱風の中間部は、豊かなハーモナイズとともに穏やかなムードを提供します。金管打楽器パートは、この充実した吹奏楽作品の劇的な結末に向けて前進し華やかに幕を閉じます。

Nearly 400 years ago (in 1609) Henry Hudson and his ship, the Half Moon, explored the majestic river that was later to bear his name. Half Moon on the Hudson pays tribute to this area of New York and the spirit of exploration and adventure. A regal fanfare announces the beginning of the work, followed by an energetic and rhythmic section that features various sections of the band answering one another. An emotional and choralelike middle section provides a calmer mood along with lush harmonizations. The brass and percussion sections herald the final segment, driving to a dramatic conclusion of this rewarding work for winds. Dur: 6:30 (Includes full performance CD)
