ベリーを摘んだらダンスにしよう
野に出てベリーを摘み、太陽光を満喫するのが北欧の民にとって短い夏の楽しみなのだ というのが題名の心である。湖の上をセーリングして釣りをするのがもう1つのスカンジナビアの民の楽しみだという。曲の冒頭部分のモティーフも終わりのダンス風の部分も、スカンジナビアの舞曲や民謡から発想を得た。
奏法上の註を2つ。練習記号「7」 「9」まで、木管楽器（サクソフォン含む）が奏するスタッカート付きの4分音符は、全てごく短く軽く、しかしシャープなスタッカートで。そして練習記号「15」の2小節目の2ndトロンボーンに始まる（pp→f ad lib.）の指示のあるロングトーン（トロンボーンとホルン）は、註に従い、各人自由なペースで、しかし全体として次第に盛り上がるのが良いと思う。
“Berry and Step a Dance” is representative of the joy the Scand inavian people experience during the short summersthey have when they pick berries in the field and enjoy the sun. The other way they enjoy summer is to sail over lakesand fish. Mamiya uses these two as inspiration for the piece for wind ensemble, creating melodies at the beginning and end that are reminiscent of Scandinavian folk dances.
