玉川上水の掘削は、非常に困難を極めたらしいのですが、この曲でも困難を乗り越えて目標に突き進む意思の強さを表現してみました。同士(演奏する仲間)と共に手と手を携えて、時にはファンファーレ的に、時には軽快に、時にはじっくりと考えながら、目標に向かって進んで行くイメージで演奏してください。(福島弘和)

福島弘和(Hirokazu Fukushima)

東京音楽大学卒業。同大学研究科修了。

オーボエを浜道晁、作曲を有馬礼子の各氏に師事する。現在、吹奏楽やオーケストラなど作編曲活動をする。また、演奏にパフォーマンスやコメディーを加えたアンサンブルポアールで演奏活動をする。

1999年朝日作曲賞、2003年下谷作曲賞、2007,2012,2013年下谷奨励賞、2010年日本管打吹奏楽学会アカデミー賞作曲部門など受賞する。

2001年国民文化祭、2008年全国高校総合文化祭の創作音楽を手掛けている。

21世紀の吹奏楽「響宴」会員。主な作品：「ラッキードラゴン」「シンフォニエッタ祈りの鐘」ほか

BLAZE THE TRAIL：Composer: Hirokazu FUKUSHIMA

This piece was commissioned by the Kodaira Youth Wind Orchestra based on their request to write a festive piece inspired by Kodaira City. The piece was premiered in August 2010.

This piece was entitled "Blaze the Trail" as my stroll around the city opened my eyes to many memorable sights of the city being a leader in many areas, including the construction of the Tamagawa waterworks and the cultivation of the first batches of blueberries in Japan. I heard that the construction of the Tamagawa waterworks was an especially arduous task, and I have attempted to portray the strength of our will to overcome difficulties and push forward to achieve our goal through this piece.

Please imagine that you are confronting obstacles in life while soldiering on hand in hand with your fellow musicians towards your goal as you perform the different sections variously in a triumphant, lively, or ponderous manner.
