19世紀後半、この地域はイギリスの発展とともに土地開発が進み、その美しい自然が壊されてしまう危機に直面しますが、「ピーター・ラビット」の作者として有名な絵本作家、ビアトリクス・ポターが私財をなげうってこの地域一帯の土地を買い取り、開発を阻止したため、今日までその自然が保たれることとなりました。副題のヒル・トップの小屋は、ビアトリクスがこの地に移住してきた際に住んでいた家を指しています。

この作品では、ウィンダミア湖とその周辺の美しい景色、それらに開発の魔の手がおよぶのを必死で阻止するビアトリクスの苦難の様子が描かれています。

最小で10人の小編成バンドから最大で40人程度の中大編成バンドまで、幅広い人数のバンドで演奏効果の高いサウンドが期待出来ます。ソロを担当する楽器には技術的・音楽的な見せ場が多く、一方でバンド全体は厚いオーケストレーションで書かれているため、編成がかたよっているバンドや、演奏技術の差が大きいバンドでも安定したサウンドが得られるでしょう。

作品は2023年、フォスターミュージックの委嘱作品として作曲されました。

東京生まれ。国際基督教大学高等学校を卒業後、東京ミュージック＆メディアアーツ尚美を首席で卒業。その後アメリカのボストン音楽院作曲科で優秀賞を受賞し卒業し、ベルギーのレメンス音楽院大学院にて作曲をヤン・ヴァンデルローストに師事。同校の作曲科および指揮科を卒業し、修士号を取得。

日本現代音楽協会新人賞入選、ニューイングランド学生作曲コンクール第1位、21世紀の吹奏楽「響宴」入選。日本、ヨーロッパの核出版社より多くの作品が出版され、ドイツ、スイス、シンガポールの吹奏楽コンクールの課題曲に選出される。

作曲をヤン・ヴァンデルロースト、ピート・スウェルツ、アンディ・ヴォース、松平頼暁の各氏に師事。指揮者としても精力的に活動する他、吹奏楽コンクール、アンサンブル・コンテストの審査員、講習会講師、21世紀の吹奏楽「響宴」の選曲委員などを務める。

尚美ミュージックカレッジ専門学校講師。著書「必ず役立つ 吹奏楽ハンドブック 小編成編」「吹奏楽のための 読譜とソルフェージュがわかる本」「吹奏楽部員のための 楽典がわかる本」（以上ヤマハ）、DVD「小編成バンドのための『サウンドバランス・メソッド』」「生徒だけで作り上げる アンサンブル」（以上ブレーン）、「指導者・奏者のためのアンサンブル指導」（ジャパンライム）。

"Windermere" is the largest lake located in northwestern England. This area is called the "Lake District", known for its magnificent view and beautiful nature around the lake.

In late 19th century, this beautiful area was in a serious crisis of nature destruction. The English writer and illustrator Helen Beatrix Potter, known as the author of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", loved this area so much that she bought the land around this lake, protected the nature from urban development.

The composer read the episode and expressed the impressions in this music; the peaceful, beautiful nature and Beatrix's suffer against the urban development and nature destruction.

The piece is to be performed in a wide range of band, from a smaller band of 10 players up to larger band with 40 players. Soloists can express their virtuosity, while other players can play without the stress in a thick orchestration. It also sounds pretty effective by the bands with unbalanced instrumentation. The piece was commissioned by FOSTERMUSIC Inc. in 2023.
