実業家C.W.モーガンにより、1841年にアメリカ マサチューセッツ州ニューベッドフォードで建造され、主に太平洋を横断し漁業や商業目的で使用されました。船は非常に頑強で信頼性があり、長い航海でさまざまな困難に立ち向かうことができたことから、捕鯨船に改装され世界中を航海しました。20世紀初頭には捕鯨産業の衰退とともに役割が終わりを迎えることとなりますが、引退するまでの約80年の間に37回航海の中で一度も海難にあったことがありませんでした。北極の氷、数え切れないほどの嵐、ホーン岬の回航を成功させ、捕鯨のキャリアを終えた後に起こった1938年のハリケーンでさえも免れたモーガンは「幸運の船」として知られ、現在はマサチューセッツ州ニューベッドフォードのウェールズのビジターセンターにて、歴史的な船として観光客を楽しませています。

樽屋雅徳(Masanori Taruya)

1978年千葉県銚子市生まれ。武蔵野音楽大学音楽学部作曲学科卒業。佐藤博、宮本良樹各氏に師事。

フランスで吹奏楽曲「Ardent Overture」を出版。代表作として「絵のない絵本」「民衆を導く自由の女神」「マゼランの未知なる大陸への挑戦」「ラザロの復活」「マードックからの最後の手紙」などがある。

全国の吹奏楽団やマーチングバンドからの委嘱も数多く、その作品の多くが国内外問わず広く演奏され、日本でもっとも人気のある作曲家のひとりである。また、作曲・編曲の傍ら、吹奏楽指導やコンクール等の審査員、執筆活動などでも多くの成果を挙げている。

2004年～2018年まで銚子市立銚子高等学校の音楽監督を務めマーチングコンテストで全国大会へ、吹奏楽コンクールでは東関東大会、東日本大会へと導く。

現在はベルモンテウィンドオーケストラの指揮者・音楽監督を務め、指導者としても高い評価を受けている。

Charles W. Morgan was an American clipper ship operating in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with an eagle, the symbol of the United States, on its stern, which also bears the ship's name and home port.

Built by industrialist C. W. Morgan in 1841 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the ship was used mainly for fishing and commercial activities across the Pacific Ocean. It was then converted into a whaling ship and sailed around the world, as it was very robust and reliable and could overcome various challenges on long voyages. Its role came to an end with the decline of the whaling industry in the early 20th century, but it never encountered a single accident at sea during its 37 voyages undertaken over a period of nearly 80 years until it was decommissioned. Known as the "lucky ship" that survived Arctic ice, countless storms, a successful circumnavigation of the world via Cape Horn, and even the 1938 hurricane that occurred after the end of its whaling career, Charles W. Morgan is now a historic ship that delights tourists visiting the New Bedford Whaling Visitor Center in Massachusetts.

This piece seeks to depict adventures, struggles, and the power of the ocean through the voyages of the whaling ship and the experiences of its crew. It will move the audience by capturing the harsh reality of whaling ships and the emotions of their crew.
