祖母山の涙～志高湖の伝説～

大分県別府市にある志高湖（しだかこ）という湖の誕生にまつわる恋の物語がベースになっています。
簡単に記すと、美しい鶴見岳（つるみだけ）に恋をした祖母山（そぼさん）と由布岳（ゆふだけ）が争いを始め、最終的に鶴見岳は由布岳を選び、恋に破れた祖母山が流した涙が志高湖になったというものです。（余談ですが、鶴見岳と由布岳の仲が良いので、今でも別府や由布院には熱い温泉が湧いているのだそうです）

曲自体は、とてもシンプルです。冒頭から現れる低音楽器の動きが祖母山のモチーフ、その後ピアノをバックに歌い上げられるのが志高湖（あるいは祖母山の恋心）のテーマ、テンポが速くなって木管楽器によって奏されるのが美しい鶴見岳のテーマ、金管楽器の動き（特にワンノートで演奏されるタタターというフレーズ）が由布岳のモチーフです。相手選びに悩む鶴見岳を表したフルートソロを挟み、激しい３拍子で祖母山と由布岳の争いが描かれます（途中、鶴見岳のモチーフも加わります）。終盤、恋に破れた祖母山は大いに嘆き悲しみ、最後は遠い南の宮崎県との県境まで去っていきます。余韻のように流れる最後の２小節は、祖母山が去った後に涙が溜まってできた志高湖を表しています（鶴見岳のモチーフも少し顔を出します）。（足立正）

1990年Ｔ.Ｕ.Ｂ.Ａ. 国際チューバカンファレンス札幌大会ジャズインプロヴィゼイションコンクール第２位。

2002年度全日本吹奏楽コンクール課題曲に「吹奏楽のためのラプソディア」が採用される。

他の主な作品に、「サニー・サイド・ストリート・パレード」（平成18年度ＪＢＡ下谷賞受賞作品）、「吹奏楽のための綺想曲 『じゅげむ』」（ 2012年度全日本吹奏楽コンクール課題曲）などがある。

TEARS SHED BY MT.SOBO - THE LEGEND OF LAKE SHIDAKA -：Composer: Tadashi ADACHI

I wrote this piece based on a folk tale from my home prefecture of Oita.

The basis is a love story about the creation of a lake called Lake Shidaka in Beppu, Oita.

Put briefly, Mount Sobo and Mount Yufu start a quarrel after they both fall in love with the beautiful Mount Tsurumi. In the end, Mount Tsurumi chooses Mount Yufu, and the tears of the heartbroken Mount Sobo became Lake Shidaka. (To add, it is said that there are still hot springs around Beppu and Yufuin to this day because Mount Tsurumi and Mount Yufu are getting along well.)

The song itself is very simple, as the sounds of the lowpitched instruments at the beginning are a motif representing Mount Sobo. The part with the piano that comes later represents the heartbreak surrounding Lake Shidaka and Mount Sobo. The segment with the faster tempo involving the woodwind instruments portrays the beautiful Mount Tusurumi, while the sounds of the brass instruments represent Mount Yufu. Surrounding the flute solo that portrays Mount Tsurumi as she struggles to choose her partner are rapid segments in triple time that capture the quarrel between Mount Sobo and Mount Yufu with Mount Tsurui's motif added in between. Toward the end, Mount Sobo becomes very sad over his unrequited love, ultimately moving far south to the border with Miyazaki Prefecture. The last two measures that feel like a reverberation represent Lake Shidaka, which formed out of Mount Sobo's tears after he left (with the motif of Mount Tsurumi also making a slight appearance).
