幻想風行進曲「マーチング・エスカルゴ」

作曲者が警視庁音楽隊長だった頃に書かれた小品です。交通安全のスローガンであった『ゆっくり走ろう』という想いに願いを込めて作られた作品です。

ゆっくり進むのはカタツムリだろうという事で、この作品ではカタツムリに見た目がそっくりなホルンがフィーチャーされています。「ゆっくり走ろう」という想いなのにテンポは快活なテンポという冗談の要素も含まれています。曲調もライトクラシック的な感じで楽しく聞ける傑作です。普段は伴奏が多いホルンセクションが生き生きと演奏できる曲だと思います。

“MARCHING ESCARGOT” AN ILLUSION-LIKE MARCH

Takanobu Saito composed this piece while he was the Music Capta in of Metropolitan Police Department Band in support of the dep artment’s ”to run slowly” traffic safety program at the time. Saito chose to make a joke by setting the theme of “to run slowly” at a lively tempo with a light classical feeling that results in music that is easy to listen to. The march features the french horn with a lively melody, not usually found in marches.
