交響曲第6番 作品130

ロイ・ホルダー氏率いるレイク・ブラドック高校吹奏楽部の委嘱により作曲された。
バーンズ氏のほかの交響曲よりも演奏時間が短く、楽曲もシンプルな構成とだが、完成度や奥深さ遠さという点では何も失われていない。

第1楽章の 「Andante, ma non troppo」は、ニ短調の陰鬱なムードを醸し出し、第2楽章の 「Adagio」は叙情的で、終楽章の 「Allegro energico」は、力強く始まり、夢幻的な不気味さのある中間部へ移り、最初の主題に戻って幕を閉じる。

SIXTH SYMPHONY, OP. 130：Composer: James BARNES & Christopher TUCKER

This symphony, commissioned by and dedicated to Roy Holder and his wonderful Lake Braddock High School Band, is both shorter and simpler to play than the composer's other symphonies, but it loses nothing in terms of integrity or profundity.

The first movement, "Andante, ma non troppo," casts a brooding mood in the somber key of D minor, the second movement, "Adagio" is lyrical, while the final movement, "Allegro energico," begins powerfully before moving to a dreamy, ghostlike middle section before finally returning to the initial material.
