合唱とブラスのための「大いなる秋田」より“躍進”～「秋田県民歌」

全体は４つの楽章からなり、各楽章には秋田のわらべ歌や民謡、県民歌が採り入れられている。第3楽章“躍進”は複合三部形式のマーチである。そのトリオの部分に成田為三が昭和5年に作曲した「秋田県民歌」が用いられた。秋田県では国体に合わせて昭和34年に作られた「秋田県民の歌」があり、成田の曲は戦後しばらく忘れられた存在になっていたが、「大いなる秋田」の発表を契機に再び脚光を浴びることとなった。今では長野県、山形県と並んで多くの県民に愛唱される県民歌として知られている。

　この編曲では前半部のマーチをトロンボーン4本で演奏できるように編曲するとともに、後半のトリオの部分では昭和5年に発表された成田為三の伴奏譜を尊重する形で編曲したものである。前半の未来に向かうかのようなモダンな作風と後半からの落ち着きのある歌のコントラストを楽しみたい。（佐川馨）

"OOINARUAKITA(Akita the Great)" is a symphony for wind band and choir first proposed by Yujiro Obata in the fall of 1967. The then Akita Prefectural Governor suggested that "I want to make something eternal to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji era. Not a building because they can collapse, but something like an orchestral piece." The Akita Prefecture did not have a strong amateur orchestral program at the time, but the wind band was one of the best in the country, prompting the idea to combine this band with the voices of Akita residents in the composition. The composer, Kan Ishii (1921~2009), was a professor at Toho Gakuen as well as Aichi University of Education who composed a wide variety of pieces ranging from vocal songs to orchestral music. He was also known for his contributions to the amateur music world through his efforts in choral associations among other groups. Kan was asked to compose this piece because his father and renowned Buyo dancer, Baku Ishii, was born and raised in the town of Yamamoto, Yamamoto county, Akita.

The symphony is composed of four movements, each drawing inspiration from the traditional folk songs and prefectural songs of Akita. The third movement, "YAKUSHIN(Dramatic development)", is a march in compound ternary form. The trio section uses "Akita Kenminka", or Prefectural Song of Akita, composed in 1930 by Tamezo Narita. Akita Prefecture has another song, "Akita Kenmin no Uta", literary meaning People's Song of Akita, composed in 1959 for the National Sports Festival of Japan, which overshadowed the song by Narita. The song was all but forgotten after World War II, but the emergence of "OOINARUAKITA" shed a new light to this composition. "Akita Kenminka" is now one of the most beloved prefectural songs in Japan, together with the songs from Nagano and Yamagata prefectures.

This new arrangement enables the march in the first half to be played by four trombones, while the latter half's trio section is now faithful to the accompaniment part as was written by Tamezo Narita in 1930. Listen for the contrast between the contemporary sounds driving towards the future in the first half and the calm vocals in the second half.
