In Spring 2019, to a commission from the percussionist and marimbist Tomohiro Nishikubo, I started composing the work NiDaSohEn for Marimba and Percussion, and finished it in November of the same year. It aims to display characteristics of the Marimba and Percussion that are the same attribute as instruments. Marimba acts as a soloist and Percussion acts as an orchestra, that is, it’s written in concerto style. The work consists of 4 characteristic parts. The first part starts with calm passages and fragmentary motifs in the marimba part in response to Percussion. The second part contains a cadenzalike, illustrates atemporal space between Marimba and Percussion. That space leads to magical and invocational ostinato which is the third part. After a glowing passage of the third part, it leads to the final part which is Allegro. NiDaSohEn is a coined word meaning rhapsodic percussion duo.
