前奏曲 ト短調 作品23-5
セルゲイ・ラフマニノフの代表的ピアノ作品、「10の前奏曲」作品23の中の一曲です。作品番号の中では、第5番となっていますが、最初に（1901年）作曲されています。構成は、提示部・中間部・再現部の3部から出来ていて、とても解り易いです。主題は、Alla March ( 行進曲のように ) と書かれているように、主題は1つの刻まれたリズムに乗って、提示されます。この歩みは、力強く行方を定め、歩を緩めて、中間部に入ります。テンポを落とした中間部は、ショパンにも通じた、極めてセンティメンタルな抒情性豊かな曲想の歌です。テンポを上げながら、再現部を迎えます。提示部より、一層力強く勇壮に発展して、引き締まった終結を迎えます。
原曲はピアノ曲ですが、この編曲では、ピアノ曲のイメージを取り払って管楽器アンサンブルとして作曲された、と云うオリジナリティ作品と考えています。
主題を支える独特のリズムは、ある種ダンス的なリズムです。隊列を組んで勇壮に進むことではなく、颯爽とした踊りの姿を作ることが大切です。中間部は、曲想の流れに充分に乗った、テンポの小刻みな揺れが期待されます。この中間部でのクライマックスの構築が、この小品の頂点とも成ります。再現部のテンポは、提示部より少し前進し、勇壮なダンスの終わりを見届けることになります。
原曲は、ピアニッシモで消えて行きますが、この編曲では、管楽器のアンサンブルを強調する意味で、力強く終わっています。
Prelude in g minor is the fifth piece in Rachmaninoff’s 10 Preludes, Opus 23, composed for piano in 1901.
Written in a ternary form, Rachmaninoff presents a crisp and powerful march theme in the first section, followed by a lyrical melody over extended arpeggios in the middle section which gradually increases in tempo into the recapitulation, a more powerful exploration of the original material, concluding with an unexpected coda where the music fades to pianissimo.
Kushida’s arrangement uses the melodic material from the piano score, but with the addition of creative new material and caref ul orchestration that makes a new version more characteristic of a wind ensemble.
Dance rhythms under the principle theme turns what was a rigid march into a flowing dance, more gallant in style and feel than the original.
The middle section sees the addition of short, quick passages interwoven with the primary musical material, creating a new climax before the recapitulation.
Kushida chooses to abandon Rachmaninoff’s ending, electing instead to harness the full dynamic range of the wind ensemble to restate the material in full scale, crescendoing to a powerful climax.
