吹奏楽のための序曲

　日本には「雅楽」という、洗練された極めて独自な古い伝統を持つ合奏の音楽があるほか、各地にもっと民衆的な、神楽、田楽、風流など、これも合奏を含んだ各種の芸能の音楽がある。
　この「序曲」は、それあら2つの流れを集めたような内容と考えて良い。前半の闊達な部分のリズムの弾みと後半のゆったりし部分は、著しい対照を作っているが、後半になってもほぼ1小節ごとにゆったりした動きだが、大きく足を踏みしめて踊るような拍節管を失わずに演奏することが必要である。全体に、祭礼の行われる場を引き締め、気分を高めるための祭りの序曲という風に考えるのが良い。従って、Adagio部分の神楽鈴の響きは、この曲の象徴である。
In Japan, there are two types of traditional music. Gagaku is the ancient imperial court music and dance. Kagura, Dengaku, Furyu, found in the theatre, are also traditional dance and music but more popular among the general public. This piece is a combination of these two traditional Japanese musical forms. The first half features a lively rhythm and more relaxed melodic material in the second half makes for a remarkable contrast. In the second half, performers must maintain a strong sense of rhythm even though the melodic material features flowing melodic material.
This overture evokes the emotions of people as they prepare for a festival. It’s energetic themes and strong rhythms communicate the excitement of the crowd as their spirits rise in anticipation of the event. Therefore, the sound of the Kagura bell at the Adagio is a symbol of this music.
