吹奏楽のための「竹採幻想」

　富士市制50周年に因み、富士市立高等学校吹奏楽部（顧問：新明正樹教諭）とその音楽監督・指揮者望月洋次郎氏の委嘱により作曲。

　この作品は静岡県富士市に伝わる「かぐや姫伝説」を題材にした、吹奏楽のための交響的絵巻です。

富士市に伝わるかぐや姫の物語では、かぐや姫は最後に月に帰ってしまうのではなく、富士山に登って忽然と消えてしまうことになっており、姫は富士山そのものの祭神とされています。この物語のもとになっている話は、中世の富士山縁起（富士山及び富士山信仰にかかわった寺社に関する由来や伝説などを記した縁起書の総称）です。かぐや姫を育てた竹取の翁と嫗夫妻は、それぞれ鷹と犬をかわいがり、愛鷹と犬飼と呼ばれる祭神となったとされています。（富士市ホームページより）

Taketori Fantasy takes its inspiration from the Monogatari The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, one of the oldest stories in Japanes e folklore, which tells the story of Kaguya-hime (Princess Kaguya). The story is also sometimes called The Tale of Princess Kaguya and has strong ties to the city of Fuji.
The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter describes the life of a mysteriou s girl called Kaguya-hime, who was discovered as a baby, the si ze of ones thumb, inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant by Okina, an old bamboo cutter. Together with his wife, Ouna, they raise Kaguya-hime as their own child and they live happily together. Thereafter, whenever he cuts bamboo, he finds nuggets of gold and soon the family becomes very wealthy. Kaguya-hime grows to become a beautiful woman and soon suiters come from all over Japan to seek the hand of the beautiful maiden. Even the Emperor can not win her hand, despite falling desperately in love with the beautiful princess. One day, Kaguya-hime reveals to her family that she is from the people of the moon and that she must return. Her earth family is devastated by the departure and the Emperor decrees that Mount Fuji be ascended in an attempt to retrieve her from the heavens.
In Fuji city the story has a different ending. In their version Kaguya-hime is actually the Goddess of the mountain and instead of returning to the moon, she disappears into Mount Fuji. It is also said that Okina and Ouna, who each loved a hawk and a dog, became a gods of hawks and dogs.
Taketori Fantasy was commissioned by Masaki Shinmyo, a music teacher of Fuji High School and Yojiro Mochizuki, a music director/conductor of Fuji High School Wind Band for the celebration of 50th anniversary of Fuji city.
